New Semester, Week One Activities 1/31 - 2/3 - 2011

I hope you choose to work hard and work smart in our class. If you need help I will always be here. Remember when you are absent you need to make up your reading time and tests in the morning (7:25 am). Make sure you have a new spiral notebook. Please let's get off to a great start. Activities for week Sixteen 1/10 - 1/14 - 2011

In his book My Personal Best, John Wooden writes, "There is a choice you have to make in everything you do, so keep in mind that in the end, the choice you make makes you." As we finish the first semester you can still raise your grade by doing well on your remaining assignments and making the choice to excel.

Please check Aeries and know your grade; if you are not at 100% in your reading points all you have to do is come in and read (10 points for ten minutes) (before school, break, or lunch).

Next Tuesday we will be grading your second quarter spiral notebook. It is an absolute deadline project, because of grading time for the end of the semester.

POETRY JOURNAL

Listed below are your directions and requirements for your journal.

1. Must have the proper cover

2. Must have a title page (Poetry Journal) and include your name, period, and the date.

3. Must have a table of contents, which list both the type of poem and the title plus the proper page number.

4. You should include some appropriate art work, by hand or computer

5. Each poem should be followed on the next page with the paragraph explanation and insight into your poem.

The paragraph should follow the multi-paragraph format. This means: Topic sentence, concrete detail and two different sentences of commentary (your personal insight).

6. Your poems should be in this order:

3. Mock Serious

4. Haiku

5. Description

6. I do not understand

7. Nonsense

8. Children’s

10. One original poem that you have composed
